Mazda Tribute – Vehicle Hoist for Pride Elite Wheel Chair
The wonderful Occupational Therapist had organized a Pride Elite wheel chair. This Wheel Chair is perfect for this application because the back rest fold flat and the armrests are easily removable.
The door opening and general space in side the Mazda Tribute provided a few challenges for this particular chair. We have installed several hoists into these models ( also called a Ford Escape).
Given the weight of the Power Chair we required the 150 KG capacity Auto Chair Olympian hoist. These hoists install up snuggly to one side and the main lifting arm can be removed easily if needed.
The biggest challenge in this instance was balancing the opening height and also having enough slack in the attachments so that the power chair was easily removed from the hoist when unloading and loading.
To provide some additional clearance we removed the original rear floor and custom made a new stronger lower floor.
Not only does the Power chair go in and out easily, but access to the spare wheel is also a simple operation should the need arise.
The main part of installing these hoists is “ease of use” for the end user. We always try a variety of ways and options until we find the most user friendly configuration.
